MADRESFIELD COURT

Grade I listed Madresfield Court is one of the very few houses in England that have never been bought or sold since records began.  It has been passed down through inheritance from the 12th century until today.        

The house stands on a moated site and although rebuilt and altered over the centuries, the most well known parts and images date from the late 19th century when the house was almost entirely re-ordered by the architect Philip Hardwick, with a gatehouse added later by CFA Voysey.

The practice undertook a complete fabric condition survey in 2001 and this resulted in renewal of roof coverings, repair of chimney stacks and repair of leaded flat roofs.

Major re-ordering of rooms and uses of the Court are to be undertaken to allow for the house to once more be passed to a younger generation and used as a family home, and to bring it into the 21st century in terms of heating and other services.
